Aliwal Shoal is known for its dramatic reef formations, fossilised ancient dune structure, caves, gullies, overhangs, coral growth, tropical fish life, rays, turtles, and seasonal shark encounters. The area is also home to two famous wreck dives, the Produce and the Nebo, both popular recreational dive sites near the shoal.
Depending on sea conditions and diver certification, your dive may include reef sites such as Cathedral Reef, known for its rugged terrain, caves, plateaus, and dramatic circular formation, or one of the renowned wreck dives that have made Aliwal Shoal famous among local and international divers.
